Pub business training
Making the most of your potential
If you’re concerned that you have no experience in running a pub, don’t be; experience isn’t essential as there are various opportunities to develop your knowledge. What’s more, the abilities you’ve honed elsewhere can often prove useful in running a pub – good people skills, for instance.
Qualifications available include those that are industry recognised and required by law, from professional bodies such as the BII, including the National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders to others such as the CIEH Food Safety in Catering certificate. Then there are courses which each pub operator, brewery or independent training provider has developed to help people like you.
Do you have capital to invest and want to be your own boss? Then you might want to become a tenant or lessee. Many pub companies offer induction courses to help you acquire the core competencies needed – and excellent development workshops once you’ve become established. Together, these can help you develop a sustainable and profitable business.
Alternatively, you may wish to enter the trade as a salaried manager. Many pub management company schemes offer skills training, including future development for personal career progression.
There are many routes to developing an enjoyable career in the trade. The sector can be varied, enjoyable and rewarding. If you can supply passion, enthusiasm, business acumen and hard work, this could be the career for you.
